From Hungry to Hired: Chilo's Journey

Behind every statistic is a real child with a real dream. This is the story that proves what's possible when someone believes in a child.

Before El Ayudante

Chilo was 8 years old, living with her grandmother and two sisters, barely able to make ends meet. None of them were in school — they lacked uniforms and supplies, and often went to bed hungry. Life was a challenge.

El Ayudante Provided Hope and a Future

A school uniform, nutritious meals, tutoring and mentoring from teachers and staff, and access to good healthcare. Chilo and her twin sister were the first in their family to graduate high school — and thanks to El Ayudante, they also own a home. Chilo had a dream of becoming a nurse, and with hard work, that dream became a reality.

Transformation Complete

Chilo earned her college degree in nursing. After defending her thesis, the very university where she graduated in León hired her to oversee the curriculum for the entire nursing program.

One child's dream come true.

Chilo is one of 21 first-generation high school graduates from El Ayudante's program. Today, 6 students are enrolled in college and 6 have already earned their degrees.
